Welcome to Science!

I am Mrs. Burke and I will be teaching Science for sixth grade students.  I have high expectations for all my students.  I believe everyone can succeed when they apply themselves and work hard.  I expect nothing less.

Students are expected to come to class on time, dressed appropriately and with all supplies for class.

Our curriculum in sixth grade focuses on a variety of topics.  During first semester, we will study Catastrophic Events that happen on and in our Earth.  During second semester, we will explore Space and Earthy's place in the universe. Students will gather knowledge and learn through hands-on experiences. We will also be creating projects, reading books and/or articles on science and using digital resources to generate knowledge and interest with our sixth grade science standards.

Through our standards, students will discover their world, how we as human beings affect our Earth, and Earth's place in the universe.  Students are provided opportunities to learn important scienctific facts and to build their understanding of scienctific principles, laws, and theories.  Students will be working with our AMSTI program, textbooks/resources, reading articles from various resources, conducting laboratory experiments, and using laptops.

Science is a wonderful way to learn about the world around us and how to take care of it.  I am looking forward to a great year and I look forward to having your student in my class.  Please call, send an email or make an appointment to come by if you have any questions or concerns about what your student swill be doing in science class.  I will be glad to talk with you.  You can also access the parent portal for INOW to keep up with grades.

Thank you,

Dana Burke
